Switching your older dog to a raw diet

If your dog is older, or is on medication for health issues, it's best to go slowly when changing their diet over to raw meat. Their immune system has probably been compromised by years of eating cooked foods in the form of kibble, and they may lack enough of the enzymes in their digestive tract to properly digest the raw diet at first. Gradually start giving a very small amount of raw food along with your dog's regular food, and increase it over a period of several weeks. Their immune system can also be boosted by giving a small amount of unsweetened yogurt, and/or probiotics. Yogurt and probiotics contain essential bacteria for bowel health.
