Emergency evacuation kit for your dog

Because we all live with the threat of a terrorist attack or a natural disaster, it's a good idea to have an emergency evacuation plan and kit prepared for your pet's needs as well as your own. If such an attack or disaster happened near your home, you won't have time to think about what to do, so prepare ahead of time.
The ASPCA Disaster Preparedness website has very comprehensive recommendations and provides a long list of items you should have ready to take along for pet care if evacuation is necessary. This information is useful for your pet's care if you are suddenly confined to your home for a long period of time also.
I'd recommend having these supplies stored somewhere ready to grab if you need to leave suddenly. At the very least, have your own specific list handy of what you need to take along for your pets. Don't count on being able to print off this list in an emergency, because most likely there won't be any electricity.

Let's pray we never need this, but it always pays to be prepared for the worst.

Hi Chris, thanks for posting this. I had no idea that there was such a thing. :) Good thing we keep most of their stuff in the same place.

If something were to happen, we could just throw everything in the section in a bag.

    Hi Rolando,
I had planned to compose a list of items pet owners should keep handy for an emergency; that's when I found the ASPCA site. It provided much more information than I could ever include in a post myself, so I just linked to them. I found it very helpful too. thanks for visiting.

    Hi Johann,
A few years ago, we put together a bag of supplies for our pets, but there are items on the ASPCA list that we never thought of, so I thought it would be helpful to everyone.
