We have received our first rescue success story from Sherman of the dogs of Jackman Avenue blog. Sherman is a rotti/shepherd mix somewhere between 10-12 years old, and he worded his story so eloquently that we're printing it just as he sent it to us.
Hi Rosie and Abby,
Mom said I had to tell the story of how I came to live with my folks so here we go!
I was found as a stray in a drainage ditch with another dog. He was a big yellow Lab and anytime the animal control officer tried to come near us, he would growl and lunge and try to scare him off. I just wanted to get the heck out of there but my Lab buddy thought it was better for us to stay put. Fortunately for me, the ACO was persistant and eventually captured us and took us to the Butler County Humane Society.
I was there for 3 days when Mom & Dad came to look for a dog. I was in a cage with my buddy. The staff said he was really rough with me & tried to steal all of my food. They don't know how long we were on the run together but I was really skinny at 36 lbs (I'm a big boned 55 lbs today). We were at the shelter for only 3 days when my folks came to look at another dog that was there. She was really scary though and they decided to look around at the other dogs. Dad came up to our cage and said "what about this little black one?" and I kept trying to push my way to the front of the cage to tell him that I was the greatest dog in the whole wide world, but my yellow friend kept pushing me to the back. They walked away & I thought they were gone forever...but one of the nice shelter ladies came & put a leash on me & took me into a little room where Mom & Dad were! I ran right up to Dad, threw myself on the floor and rolled on my back for belly rubs. Then I went to Mom and gave her some lovin' and my tail was wagging so hard they thought it was gonna fall off. "Get me OUTTA here!!!", I said and Dad looked at Mom and said "I think we found our dog".
I didn't have a name so they decided to call me Sherman. The shelter said I was a year old but a couple years ago they found out I was more like 4 or 5 the day I came home. They took me to a big house on Jackman Avenue and bought me lots of toys, good food and even let me sleep in their big bed!! I was so good too. I didn't bark much after the first couple of days, didn't chew stuff, didn't get into the garbage and was already housetrained...although I did pee on Mom's foot right after I was neutered, but hey...they stole my boy bits!
So that's my story. I have a great life and love my people. I would have really preferred to stay an only dog but Mom says she makes the rules so I have two sisters now. They're not so bad, I guess. I'm still Mom's favorite.
Thanks for letting me share! I hope you have a fantastic Christmas.
Sherman
The dogs of Jackman Ave is a very cute blog as told from Sherman's perspective about the life and times of himself, and sisters Penny (a boxer mix) and Lola (a white boxer) in a suburb of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Sherman proclaims himself the king of the castle, with Penny being the resident princess, and Lola fills the roll of court jester...well worth visiting.
We invite everyone to send us their happy ending rescue stories: just email us at wildcatsthree@verizon.net and include your blog url too.

Oh, & I'm closer to 10 - 12 years old. But thanks for thinking I'm so young!

Hey Sherman,
We hope these stories will bring attention to rescue dogs needing a home too, and sorry for the error in your age - our typist must have got her fingers on the wrong keys- we'll give her 30 lashes and make her correct it. Thanks and have a woofing good Christmas!

That is such a great story. We adopted Louie also. He was in a little of 9 but 3 died. All of them were adopted very quickly but Louie was returned since he was deaf and I guess his new owners just didn't want to take care of him.. We have him now and he is quite the instigator but he is really loved. We would like the thank the Justin Animal Shelter for all their hard work...
Sherman is sure a very lucky chap. I hope more dogs can be like him to be able to find nice forever home like him.
Luv,
Snowball

Oh we jus love Sherman. What a blessing he was caught so he could get a wonderful forever home!
His story is so similar to our new cousin. But she don't have a bloggie. We sniff over to visit Sherman & his sisters a lot.
Abby Rosie give you mommy love licks for such gooe writing xo
Crikit, Sparky & Ginger,
Sherman has a great story too, just like you Sparky. Rosie let me get a lick in to mom, but she crinkled her nose at me - she's a big tough doggie in her own mind, and I'm letting her think so.
