Cat scratch fever

I couldn't believe my eyes this morning. I heard a popping noise from the living room, so I poked my head out of the bedroom to see Lola and Gidget having a claw-fest on the back and side of our living room chair. Jackie can't hear much any more so she didn't hear the call to the wild from the other two to join in.

Now keep in mind Gidget has been trained for several years now not to do her scratching on the furniture - they have a "SuperScratcher" pad upstairs and a tall climbing and scratching post in the basement which they all love to use throughout the day. But ever since we added Lola to the household and I haven't been successful in breaking her of getting up on the kitchen counter and table, Gidget has been slipping back into her long ago bad habits too. And recently Lola has been climbing up the back of this particular living room chair, and giving it a few pulls on the way up. No doubt this has brought renewed interest in chair clawing back to Gidget.

While giving them a scolding, I had to laugh to myself at the site of the two of them joining in the fun together side by side. And I'm sure now that they've discovered it, they will return to the scene of the crime. It's nice to see them forming a playful friendship, as Gidget was pretty lonely after Fritz died suddenly, and didn't take to Lola right away no mater how Lola tried to cozy up to her. It just goes to show you who's really in charge when you have cats in your life, and it's not us!
