The Cat/Dog Log is having a birthday

We just had our 1st birthday here at The Cat/Dog Log, and Abby, Rosie, Jackie, Gidget and Lola all celebrated with Ice Pup treats since our weather is so hot right now.
When I started this blog a year ago, my purpose was to pass along to other pet owners what had helped Abby get over her terrible skin allergies and ear infections. The pet food scandal had only been a few months before that, and I was still very angry and frustrated at what commercial pet food companies had allowed to happen. Topics eventually grew into help with behavior problems, recommendations for other chemical-free pet products, home remedies, and pet adoption. The name has changed twice since I started it, the last change coming after I merged my Catnip Corner blog with The Dog Log in February, and I've tried to do equal justice with my topics to satisfy both the pups and kitties in my audience.
Since my blog was started, we added Rosie and Lola to our fur family, and lost our dear sweet boy Fritz to saddle thrombus disease. Each of them have provided me with many topics for this blog, as they were all rescues and they've had their share of problems that needed to be worked through.
My intention from early on has been to monetize the blog in order to be able to donate money to animal shelters and help pay for my pet's expenses. So if occasionally you see a sponsored post that seems a bit off topic, please bare with me - it's for a good cause. I've learned a lot this past year but I'm sure I still have a lot to learn about what makes a successful blog. A few months ago, I started another blog, "Living Well Naturally," following along the same principles as The Cat/Dog Log with all natural products, home remedies, etc, except it's for humans. And my latest endeavor is a blog just for fun called "Ramblings round the water cooler," which is only 3 weeks old. I've found I really enjoy blogging, but no matter how many blogs I have, my pet blog will always be my "baby." It's subject matter is closest to my heart, as the pet food industry, as well as some pet product manufacturers do not have our pets' best interest at heart, and we all need to be more aware of the crap they are putting in pet products.
Our pets depend on us to do the reading because they can't - at least mine can't. Maybe some of our canine and feline friends can read, so I shouldn't sell you short. We're so glad that we've had this past year to get to know all of you, our faithful readers and friends. Please join us in our celebration!
