Thanksgiving safety tips for your pets

Thanksgiving means wonderful traditions, delicious food, and a house full of family and friends. It also means a lot of extra noise and confusion which can be upsetting for our pets.

It's important to give your pets a quite room where they can get away from the commotion if they fell overwhelmed, and have their food, treats and toys handy for them. Playing soft music can also help drown out the noise and help them feel calm.

If your pets will be out and around your guests, be sure everyone knows not to feed them table scraps. The ASPCA has some additional helpful tips to help you get through the day without any visits to the emergency vet clinic. CLICK HERE to go to their site.

It's sad that the most festive holidays for humans are the worst for our pets.

Good idea, especially the table scraps. We have a Siamese that just loves people and food. Thanksgiving with here has always been a bit difficult, for she has the art of food begging down pat. And there is always that one relative that just "can't resist" despite warnings.

Great tips! My dog gets very anxious with all the people around. The cats do too but I think want the turkey more than they have anxiety.

Hey, I am still recovering from my shoulder surgery, but wanted to drop by and comment on your latest post. I still read lots of posts but cannot type for extended periods of time, so my commenting is limited. I enjoyed this post and I am glad I dropped by.

    peace,

Good tips! LS said that's the reason why she try not to hold dinners at home. She feels more stressed out than me LOL!

Thanksgiving is one of the only special occassion that we get extra of that hooman food. How could we miss it? Even if we were to get bad tummy for the next few days, it will still be worth it. I think it will be better that you advice all dog owners to serve only dog safe food so that we get to join in the fun too.

We had our Thanksgiving early, and Ace was told to stay on his dog bed a few feet from our table while we ate, and he whimpered the entire time! He never does this! I was so mad at him. I put him in his kennel and then he barked (he never does this either!). It must've been because we had a guest over and all the food smelled so good to him. He wanted to be a part of it!

So, Ace will be going in his kennel and staying on his bed more often from now on. Clearly he thinks he doesn't have to anymore!
