Disposable pets - it's one of the shames of our society that dogs and cats are at first adopted but then if they cause inconvenience for the owners, they find themselves at a shelter or worse - left to fend for themselves on the streets.
My Rosie was one of those throw-away dogs, found wandering the streets in Dayton Ohio by the dog catcher, abused, underfed, and scared. When no one claimed her, she was scheduled to be euthanized and that's when the rescue group Lil Paws Rescue stepped in and saved her. Rosie was being fostered by my neighbor until they could find a home for her, and that's how I met and fell in love with my little girl. She came to us with some issues - fear of men, overprotective of her food, food gobbling, and lack of house training. We've worked through these issues one by one with her, and it's been well worth the time it took to rehabilitate her. She is a very devoted, comical and loving companion, and if it weren't for groups like Lil Paws, she wouldn't even be alive today.
Rescue groups are most often non-profit organizations run by average people who depend on donations to keep going. They devote many hours and their own money. Paul and Kristin Banks run one of these wonderful organizations called "Eye on the Sparrow" out of Yorkville Illinois, and were featured by Dogster.com recently for their efforts. According to Paul and Kristin, they are "dedicated to all the dogs left behind, the blind, the elderly, the physically challenged, and all those otherwise passed over for adoption." It's a very inspiring story, well worth reading. Here is the Dogster article, Don't pass me by."

I have a dog and cat who were both in this sort of a situation. It's realyl awful how some people seem to treat living, feeling creatures as though they were just a piece of furniture.
Yes it is Walter. Bless you for taking in your cat and dog and giving them a loving home. That's 2 less animals that are suffering in this world.
My dog Blitzkrieg has a similar story to your Rosie. It's because of him that we attend as many animal rescue events as we can and take Blitzkrieg with us so we can tell his story.
