If you've looked into adopting a cat from your local humane society or animal shelter, you know that there's a small adoption fee charged to cover their costs, including spaying/neutering and other veterinary care.
However, the Michigan Humane Society ,along with many other humane societies throughout the United States, has been trying a special promotion to help find homes for the countless older cats that have found their way to the shelters through no fault of their own. This year has been an especially busy one at most shelters, as people losing their homes and moving into apartments that don't allow pets have been forced to surrender their beloved pets. It's usually easy to find good homes for kittens, but it's the older cats that are harder to place for some reason. So many humane societies around the country have been experimenting with removing the adoption fee.
All cat's have been vaccinated, groomed, passed behavioral evaluation, and spayed/neutered, so they're ready for their new family. A thorough screening process is in place to assure that these cats end up in a safe and happy environment. The Michigan Humane Society's campaign has been so successful that they plan to continue it.

Gosh that is a wonderful idea of putting the fee at $0. I sure hope that means that lots of older cats will get wonderful homes. That is the best part.
In this area the fee is often waived for older animals (seniors) since they are so difficult to find homes for.
Thank you all for stopping by and for your comments, and thank you too Fish Hawk for featuring us on your site.
What a wonderful idea and I hope it helps more kitties find their furever home!

I love this campaign! So original and so good. I hope it's working!
