Rescued pets on the runway
As you know, the effects of the poor economy is widespread, and it's also affecting animal shelters everywhere. The shelters are over-crowded because so many families have lost their homes or for some other reason can no longer take care of their pets, and have been forced to surrendered them to the shelters. These shelters are also seeing a decrease in donations so the situation is critical.
Maurices, a community-based fashion retailer, has partnered with the ASPCA to create their Rescues & Runways program during the month of September. They have more than 730 stores across the country, and each of them will be hosting their own Rescues & Runways fashion show, which will feature animals from local shelters.
In addition to hosting the furry fashion shows, Maurices stores will be accepting pet food and supply donations in their stores throughout the month of September on behalf of their local animal shelter partner. They will also be selling an exclusive, limited edition "Friends for Life" pet charm beginning in mid September to commemorate the special bond between people and their pets. These charms cost $5, with $2.50 of the cost going to the ASPCA's national shelter outreach program.
Let's all show our support for our furry friends. Consider adopting if you can, or making a donation of food or money to help ease the burden of our animal shelters.

Wow, that is terrific what Maurices is doing. We don't have one of those stores here. But it is a great idea. I wish I could donate more, but I have my own expenses with all the cats I have taken in. It is really hard to find homes for these guys. Great post.
